Bayard
Bayard has a lot of enthusiasm about planting trees and supporting outdoor community spaces. It has well landscaped and maintained parks, including the Community Center Park and Mining Park. Whitewater Creek and its drainages have created vegetated corridors that weave through town.
The focus of the community forestry plan for Bayard will be on establishing on-going support and systems to maintain their newer landscapes, while addressing tree maintenance and removal needs in older landscapes and riparian corridors. The Town Council and Clerk have also encouraged the project team to maximize benefits by finding ways to plant trees at individual homes and in the Housing Authority Parks.
Potential focus areas for tree planting include:
- landscaping at the “Welcome to Bayard” sign and along Central Avenue to attract visitors to the business district
- improving tree canopy at public resource buildings including the Community Center, Post Office, Union Hall, and Library
- tree maintenance and/or replacement in historic landscapes such as the cemetery

Community Tree Overview
Potential public planting locations include Central Ave., the cemetery, parks, community center, trails/trailheads, Post Office, “Welcome to Bayard” sign, Housing Authority Parks, Union Hall, and the Library.
The Town Council and Clerk have encouraged the project team to maximize benefits by finding ways to plant trees at individual homes. Community engagement will be needed to determine whether residents actually want this and are able to take on tree care.
Community Engagement Strategies
Many residents speak Spanish, and some are not bilingual in English. Community engagement will need to have opportunities for Spanish speakers to engage in the process.
Information Hubs will be available at the Library and Town Hall, with materials in Spanish and English.
Bilingual Community Surveys will be deployed In-Person alone or in combination with already scheduled community events. Additional events may be added to meet the needs of the community.
